Design Insights: Little Things, Big Impact
On August 28, 2025, the "Search for Influential Creators in the Design Industry – Cover Story City Salon," co-hosted by InteriorDesign Chinese Edition and Schneider Electric, visited the Guangzhou Rongli Luxury Lifestyle Pavilion. This season's theme, "Little Things, Big Impact," delved into the profound connotations and design inspirations behind the concept. Hu Yan, founding partner and design director of Jiajian Zhihui Architectural Design Office, was invited to attend and was interviewed by Sina Home.
As a local Guangzhou designer, Hu Yan proposed the core idea that "design should be greater than itself," emphasizing that design is not only a means to solve problems but also a way to convey ideas to society.
Hu Yan illustrated the power of detail in triggering significant changes through the case of transforming old宅基地 into a public art community "generator." The once closed and abandoned site has transformed into a "beacon" that attracts public participation. This practice verifies the logic of constructing grand narratives from small details – shaping the uniqueness of space through brand stories, emotional connections, and other minor entry points.
In response to industry trends, Hu Yan pointed out that the era of extensive design has come to an end, and homeowners are increasingly focusing on挖掘 their growth experiences and brand uniqueness. "We talk less about functionality and more about stories," he believes that future design needs to inject emotional details and individual memories from private homes to commercial brands, making space a medium that carries warmth. In the final part of the interview, Hu Yan summarized with "design is a dialogue with society," calling for cultural identity and community renewal through small details.
